Business Cards assignment for Digital Media with Blanka Roundtree

The Sketches:   The Business Cards: Artist Statement:      The basis for my business cards is definitely encouraged by neon lights since I truly enjoy the over contrast that these colors bring to the viewer's eye. (NOT FINSHED YET)

Post Card from Dallas, Texas by Echo Prescott made in Adobe InDesign

Post Card from Dallas, Texas for the Total Solar Eclipse:  Artist Statement:      I chose to make my postcard from the one city of Dallas, Texas that was going to experience the solar eclipse in its totality. I decided to go the corny hallmark route with my postcard design since my only information about Texas or an image of Texas as someone who has only ever lived in Wisconsin and Florida is that Texas is "yeehaw," culture up the wazoo. So, with this yeehaw culture, I thought what would be better than to make the postcard a sort of joke to mock Dallas, Texas. I think that joking here and there in your artwork allows for people to realize that not everything I supposed to be taken super seriously. I think that we as a society in America have grown soft in terms of joking and expressing personal beliefs, so with my postcard, I am trying to show others that it is still okay to mock things as a joke. At the end of the day, if you can't laugh at yourself then what is the...

Animation 'Subliminal SMOKING' by Echo Prescott

Subliminal SMOKING by Echo Prescott Artist Statement:            The animation I created for Digital Media taught by Blanka Roundtree, is centered around the smoking/vaping epidemic that I have witnessed as a young adult and even in the teenage years. Even though I smoke, I really think that addiction is a serious topic that is not talked about enough, even though we are constantly seeing advertisements and public service announcements everywhere. This is why I took it upon myself to create something that young adults/ teenagers would actually find appealing to watch. However, I catch them off guard in the end when my subject, the man in the top hat, dies. I was heavily inspired by a cutaway in the show Family Guy, specifically in Season 7, episode 12, titled "420," when Brain gets Marijuana legalized, but Stewie reminds him of the anti-pot advertisements, which is when the cutaway happens. I really liked the limited illustrating that kept the subje...

InDesign Tools for Beginners

Image
The Page Tool:      This page tool changes the direction, layout, and size of the page you are working on in InDesign. I think this tool would be beneficial when constructing projects, whether for business or artistic purposes; for example, pamphlets are vertical and a specific size rectangular, whereas creating something for visual art may be best used as a landscape layout. I also think this tool is super helpful since, in other applications like Photoshop or Illustrator, you have to choose the page layout before you even start working, but with InDesign, you really have the freedom to change it as you create. I really like this video made by Jawad Soomro because he is super straight to the point with his explanations and examples.  Rectangle Frame Tool:       This Rectangle Frame tool inputs images onto a page in InDesign. At first you use the tool to select an area where you want an image or picture to ...
